As a Pastor I decided to do some research of my own to see what the Bible says about weapons and self defense. I as are most people are well aware the the phrase ” vengeance is mine saith the Lord”. Upon further research the Bible clearly differentiates between vengeance and self defense. According to Wikipedia, Vengeance (concept) or revenge,is a harmful action against a person or group in response to a grievance. According to Merriam-Webster it means punishment inflicted in retaliation for an injury or offense :retribution. The definition of self defense according to dictionary.com is a claim or plea that the use of force or injuring or killing another was necessary in defending one’sown person from physical attack: He shot the man who was trying to stab him and pleaded self-defense at the murder trial.
